SETH BEDFORD
He/Him/His. A multidisciplinary composer, conductor, performer and educator, Seth Bedford creates musical experiences for orchestras, bands, chamber musicians and children. His work often explores themes of mutual understanding, internationality, and community.
He holds a degree in music composition from the University of Texas where he studied with Kevin Puts. His pieces "Crown of Aragon," "Winter Lights," and "Ancient Scottish Air" were recently published by Carl Fischer Music, New York with a fourth, "Spies!" due in 2025.
He's a former member of the viola section of and composer for the Chelsea Symphony (NYC) and former board member and violist for the Queer Urban Orchestra (NYC) as well as former Artistic Director of the Cleveland Pride Band (Cleveland, OH). Currently, he is based in Houston,TX where he leads orchestras and guitar ensembles.
Born in Big Spring, TX and educated in Odessa, Midland and Austin, TX, Seth began his musical life singing and songwriting in elementary school. He started cello in sixth grade. By the time he graduated high school, he was also playing viola, violin and bass. While a composition student at the University of Texas at Austin, he also studied voice, piano and harp and conducting. Since then, he's become an avid guitarist, accordionist and percussionist. Seth is also active as a visual artist and fiction writer, and he's a long-time member of ASCAP.
